The product problem

TV viewers were already sitting with an iPad on the couch. Dish wanted that second screen doing real work for Hopper customers: discovery, social context, and remote control.

What I built

As lead developer for Dish Explorer for iPad, I owned the app across its full lifecycle: alpha, production launch, and seven updates. I ran team SCRUM, coordinated internal and external teams, and worked daily with UI/UX and QA.

Feature work included:

• Set-top box discovery and pairing over the local network (UPnP/SSDP).
• A virtual remote control and DVR management from the tablet.
• Advanced search with auto-complete and relevance ranking.
• Social integration with Tvtag (formerly GetGlue), personalized recommendations, related programs, and trailers.

I also represented Sling Media and Dish at CES, demoing upcoming features directly to customers and press.
